Just look at that sky full of sparkle! Those awesome explosions! That pyrotechnic pizzazz!
There’s nothing like a fantastic display of Low Country fireworks to put you in a holiday mood. This 4th of July, the Grand Ideas team is looking forward to one of Charleston’s GRANDEST Independence Day celebrations yet. Our traditional Patriot’s Point fireworks display just got even brighter: For the very first time, spectators can watch the show from the flight deck of the renovated WWII aircraft carrier Yorktown.
In past years, the fireworks were launched from the Yorktown while the audience gazed from shore. Now a donated barge in Charleston provides the base for the extravaganza. And it’s going to be a big one. Another first for Charleston: 8-inch shells, not used anywhere else in South Carolina. Those sparkling pinwheels are going to be GIGANTIC.
“It will be the biggest and the best ever,” says the Executive Director of Patriot’s Point, Mac Burdette. We agree with him – and we can’t wait to see Charleston’s new version of the fantastic 4th. If you’re looking for the Grand Ideas team, you can catch us on the F-dock at Charleston Harbor Marina – just 100 feet away from the fireworks barge. Close enough to smell the gunpowder. Now that’s exciting!
See y’all at Patriot’s Point!
